Product Review
Amazon.com Review

Simple to operate and easy to clean, this mechanical device quickly and easily presses juice from all citrus fruits. It's made of enameled iron so it's heavy and stable and has suction feet for further insurance against sliding during use. A three-step process--lifting the handle, placing half a fruit on the conical strainer, pulling the lever--is all that's needed to produce a flow of juice into a container on the cup rest beneath the juicer's head. The strainer and basket are made of 18/10 stainless steel. Like the plastic cup rest and the cone that presses against the top of a fruit, the strainer and basket remove with a twist and are dishwasher-safe. The housing wipes clean with a damp cloth. Shapely and compact, the juicer measures 10 inches high, 8 inches wide (including the handle with its rubber grip), and 11 inches deep (including the handle). It carries a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Summary: It works but it leaves unsqeezed pulp behind. 2004-05-03
Comment: This is my second juicer. I had been using a Krups electric for the past decade. I thought this would be better: fewer parts to clean; not made of plastic; less effort; etc. But there are some drawbacks. First, you have to pre-squish the 1/2 sliced orange on the juicer or it falls over to the side. Second, the shape of the juicing cone is a compromise. It doesn't do a thourough job of sqeezing the outer perimeter of the orange. Third, it puts so much pressure on the orange that it sqeezes the skin putting the bitter orange oil into your juice. The last two complaints would be universal in this type of machine. I mean with the electric Krups, you can move the orange all around the spinning juicer to extract all the juice and you can't squeeze it hard enough to extract oil from the skin.

Finally, the juicer does not open up enough to easily accommodate a grapefruit. You can get one in there but you are going to lose juice as it scrapes along the outside of the juicer.

It's convenient, it works, it isn't perfect. Despite my concerns, I haven't used the electric one since this arrived two months ago.

Summary: Ease of Use Exaggerated 2003-12-27
Comment: I purchased this for Christmas 2003 from Williams-Sonoma (color: tangerine). While the product description states "The heavy lid does all the work for you, applying enough pressure to extract maximum juice", the recipient of my gift found that the Orange-X Ojex Household Juicer requires a substantial amount of pressure be applied by the user before juice is extracted. The disappointed recipient has also informed me that this item is a basic juicer with little or no advantages over other mechanical juicers. She will be returning this item shortly.

Comment: I've had mine all of one day. It provided rainy day fun for the kids, ages 5, 8, 12 and 14! A breeze to use and to clean, and the juice's wonderful! No problem with hinges others mentioned, and we went thru an entire bag of oranges. Only thing you really have to be careful of is the intense pressure when the lever's pulled, and little fingers tending to be where they ought not be! Otherwise, it's fantastic, and now at the top of my list for future wedding gifts!

Summary: No problems yet 2003-07-08
Comment: Very heavy and solid juicer. Has a 7 year guarantee so if you do have any problems (some people have complained of weak spots) it can easily be returned. I have encountered absolutely no problems and it has been a joy to use, all with one handed operation.

The drip tray on the base is easy to remove for cleaning and the juicing cup also comes apart for that quick post juice rinse.

My preference was with the professional size juicer but it is much too big for apartment living. This is perfect.

Summary: Not yet ready for sale: An Achilles heel 2002-09-25
Comment: Mine broke on the first use, with the fourth orange half. The weak spot seems to be the hinged arcs connecting the upper and lower parts. They're cast iron, but my upper arc sheared into two pieces under extremely normal use. It's a shame, because the design seems excellent otherwise. But I'd say don't buy unless (until) the juicer's reengineered to strengthen this weak spot.
